From
Russia, with love
Dave Francis HI guys, This is Dave. I am finally escaped from the clutches of the KGB, and have been able to make it to a computer to send this message. Russia is unreal. It is so different than the USA you cant imagine it. It is so old, so statuesque. I am in an area that is very old. I am staying just off Nevsky Ave, which would be compared to Broadway on any major American city. The thing about it is, it is filled with very old, beautiful buildings, and Lena knows the history of each of them. On the whole boulevard, there are three buildings that are less than 100 years old, and most of them are former palaces. It is really impressive. I have been to a lot of museums, lots of cafes, lots of exhibits, libraries. I am so full of culture I am beginning to think I shouldn't be associating with people like all of you..... We are going to Moscow soon, and will be there for a few days. We will be staying at her cousin's apartment. Should be a nice trip. Train ride. I have never been on a train trip, unless you count the train at the St. Louis zoo. If things go well, I may find time to do the Trans Siberian trip while I am here this time. I found that the trip is a lot less expensive if you buy the tickets here. If you buy them from the USA broker, they are over one thousand dollars, but if you buy them here, it is a little over one hundred. Not bad savings on that purchase, huh? Well, I have things to do. I am at Yelena’s parents right now, and they are in the other room nervously imagining that I am sending coded messages to the CIA back in the USA. (Her brother in law writes super secret programs for the Russian military....) The weather has been great. The highs some days have been in the 50s, but lately in the 70s. The mosquitoes are things of legend, the food is like American food, and the ladies are incredibly tall, blonde, and beautiful. Russian style tends to be toward the elegant, and the women look very nice on the street. Yelena says hello, and that she is very impressed by how handsome and Well-mannered American men are. (I think she is being sarcastic....) . Missing all of you, (Yeah, right! heh heh heh) |
