Francis Report 09-26 Dave Francis Commentary: "Death to America" rang out again from Iranian radio stations today. The Iranians have now stated unequivocally that they will not be of assistance in the fight against terrorism. Other than the fact that this seems incredibly short sighted, why does this surprise anyone? "You, who have always caused blows to Iran's interests, how dare you request help (from us) in order to attack the innocent Muslim nation of Afghanistan which has suffered and which is our neighbor," Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said yesterday in a radio broadcast to the nation. Colin Powell seems more concerned about building an alliance of nations to go at this thing rather than getting on with winning this war. In the long run, it is a damn good thing that he isn't the man in charge. His counsel is dangerous. If we take his course, we will not finish the job, just as we didn’t in the gulf war. We will leave terrorists viable in several countries that Powell is desperately courting to join us. Why do we want a large coalition? Would it be a bad thing to be on the wrong side of this issue with countries like Iraq, Iran, and Syria? I don’t think so. It is time we did what needed doing, and we don’t need the help of any third world countries, or any pampered sheikhdoms to do it. . Go in, find the targets, kill them, and destroy whatever facilities they have for creating troubles. Part of the facilities are, if the job is to be done right, are the countries that host, sponsor, and use terrorists to achieve their national goals. Afghanistan is target one, followed closely by Iraq. As for Afghanistan, their leader, Mullah Muhammed Omar, says that bin Ladin "doesn't have the capabilities to accomplish such a feat. We have had complete control of Osama bin Ladin's movements and communications for some time." We should take him at his word. It is very likely that bin Ladin could not have done this alone. It is almost certain, considering the lack of individual liberties that exist inside Afghanistan, that the Taliban has been keeping very close tabs on bin Ladin. After all, he isn’t just a normal person living there. In addition to being wealthy, being a world renowned terrorist, he is also the COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THEIR ARMED FORCES!!! Don’t forget, as reported earlier, on August the 30th, Vladimir Putin gave a speech condemning the Taliban for naming bin Ladin as the Commander in Chief of the Afghanistan armed forces. That was prior to the September the 11th massacre, and should be seen in its important context. That takes the attack on the US to a level of state vs. state aggression. Then there is Iraq. There is mounting evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved in financing, planning, and otherwise supporting this most recent terrorist strike. Even if Iraq wasn’t directly involved in this attack, Saddam is in the process of building serious weapons of mass destruction, and that is not something that the US can allow to continue. Given time, Saddam will inflict damages on the civilian population of the US that will dwarf what has happened thus far. The best answer for the US right now is to go into Afghanistan with a vengeance. The Russians and the British have had problems in Afghanistan, but they were trying to colonize it. Alexander the Great had no such ambitions, and his military conquest of Afghanistan was successful. Atop a hill, overlooking Kabul, Alexander reportedly said, "What I see is grazing area for my horses." Our military can go through this rag-tag bunch of ill trained, ill-equipped soldiers the Taliban field in short order. Let them do it. After Afghanistan, or at the same time, Iraq needs to be dismembered. Iraq is an invention of politics. The only reason for maintaining the artificially created state that is modern day Iraq has been to 'balance the power against Iran." Well, that just doesn’t justify the effort. Better to go in, relieve Iraq of its ruling clique, and let them work the rest out for themselves. It will almost certainly wind up being 3 or 4 small, relatively wealthy countries that will be a lot less of a threat to western democracies. After we are done with those two, it is time to look at Iran and decide what to do. If the current regime continues it's policies of practicing and supporting terror, we need to go there next. Terrorism is a luxury that can’t be afforded in this day of easy jet aircraft travel and weapons of mass destruction. It is a combination whose deadly results are only hinted at in New York and Washington. By that time, I think some of the other, less potent regimes like Syria and Somlia that have in the past been known to aid terrorism will have second thoughts on the issue. If not, we have developed a pattern. We should follow it. Whispers: Here in Russia, things are moving quickly. The transportation routes into Kazakhstan and beyond are very sketchy. The weather is turning cold, and when it gets cold here, it gets very cold. Look for a renewed Russian offensive in Chechnya in the next few days, as Russia will bring the fight to the terrorists on that front. It was reported earlier that the Russian Security forces in Chechnya had come across some plans that detailed parts of the WTC attack. Today it can be reported that financial links are being explored between the heroin coming from Afghanistan, the world’s leading producer, and the Russian mafia, the world’s leading distributor. The link is too easy to imagine. There have also been upwards of 3000 Chechen terrorists seen on the move from Chechnya to Uzbekistan, in what is being seen as a strategic placement to wreak havoc on any Allied forces that are going to be based in Tashkent. More than any other reason, this is the reported reason for the slowdown in civilian transport to the area. A Syrian businessman in Germany, identified as Mamoun Darkhanzali, whereabouts unknown, and a Mamdouh Mamud Salim, in custody in New York, are amongst those believed to have put together a deal for bin Ladin to purchase uranium for a price tag of 1.5 million dollars. Russian President, Vladimir Putin was in Germany, stumping for, it would appear, more support for America in the war effort. Putin was formerly a KGB agent, stationed in Germany, and he received a standing ovation after his speech. "with terrorists, we cannot come to terms, we must leave them no peace," and he argued that the war in the province of Chechnya is also one with Islamic militants and terrorists. China has begun airlifting more than 1000 Chinese civilians who were working in Iraq. The amount of haste involved makes one wonder if the Chi-coms know something. Osama bin Ladin has forces in the Balkans, and he has sent word out to them to mobilize for the upcoming battle. The weapons these fighters sport have largely been stolen from NATO caches in the region, so they are a bit better equipped than most terrorists. The Saudis continue to run, literally. Another 5 airplanes have landed in Geneva, carrying members of the Saudi royal family and their staffs. There are reportedly more than one million Afghanis on the way out of Afghanistan. A flood of humanity, hoping to escape the retribution they expect to rain down upon their countries leaders is lapping at the borders, and with the borders sealed, they have nowhere to go. President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt said, in a televised interview, that Egypt was aware of a plan to assassinate George Bush by bin Ladin forces at the G8 summit in Genoa last July. Egyptian intelligence services reportedly told the US that the plan might involve an airplane stuffed with explosives. DJF |
